The following is an index to property transfer deeds recorded at the Suffolk County Deed Registry from the original land purchase through December 31, 2015. Mortgages, trust agreements, and other similar recorded documents are not included. This index is intended as a guide only; actual deeds should be reviewed for details.
301-303 Marlborough were built on a lot 44 feet wide composed of a 20 foot lot and a 24 foot lot acquired by James Barr Ames on November 15, 1877 (Book 1399, p. 210) and November 20, 1877 (Book 1399, p. 308). When he sold the two houses, the width of the land was indicated as 44 feet 6 inches: 301 Marlborough on November 23, 1878 (Book 1441, p. 275) with a width of 23 feet 6 inches, and 303 Marlborough on September 25, 1878 (Book 1435, p. 51) with a width of 21 feet. This discrepancy has been repeated in subsequent deeds.

| Agreements with respect to purchase of unimproved land: J. Dixwell Thompson and Frederick Pope jointly entered into bonds to purchase two lots with a combined frontage of 88 feet: a 64 feet lot to the east and a 24 feet lot to the west. On June 9, 1871, they agreed to divide the land. Pope agreed to purchase the 44 feet to the west (which he combined with other land and used for 295-297-299 Marlborough). Thompson agreed to purchase the eastern 44 feet (which subsequently became the site of 301-303 Marlborough). | ||||
