The following is an index to property transfer deeds and party wall and building restriction agreements recorded at the Suffolk County Deed Registry from the original land purchase until conversion of the building into condominium units. Mortgages, trust agreements, and other similar recorded documents are not included. This index is intended as a guide only; actual deeds should be reviewed for details.
4 Charlesgate East (535 Beacon) was built as The Charlesgate in 1891-1892. 10 Charlesgate East and 459 Marlborough were built as two separate houses in 1889-1890. 10 Charlesgate East was acquired by the owners of The Charlesgate in 1892 and incorporated into the hotel. 459 Marlborough was acquired in 1907 by a member of the family who owned The Charlesgate and operated as part of the hotel from that time but owned separately. In 1923, all three properties were sold to the same owner and operated as a single property. In 1998, the property was subdivided into two condominium buildings: 4 Charlesgate East as “The Charlesgate,” and 10 Charlesgate East and 459 Marlborough as “The Barnes Mansion.”
This index includes all transfers relating to 4 Charlesgate East, 10 Charlesgate East, and 459 Marlborough until the property was subdivided into two condominium buildings.
