John J. Craig was born on September 17, 1877, in Canada, the son of Horatio H. Craig and his wife, Johannah Merry.  John Craig’s marriage record and World War II draft registration record show him as born in Boston.  However, there is no record of his birth in Boston, and the 1900 US Census indicates that he was born in Canada and came to the United States in 1880 with his parents.

He married on August 15, 1911, in Boston, to Claire J. LeMay (b. 1884-1885 in Fitchburg), daughter of Charles A. LeMay and his wife, Mary O. Laventure.

Career

John J. Craig was a draftsman and then an architect in the offices of Julius A. Schweinfurth.  He appears never to have been made a partner in the firm, but remained with Schweinfurth from about 1899 until shortly before Schweinfurth’s death in 1931.
