Robert Peabody Bellows was born on November 3, 1877, in New York City, the son of Rev. Henry Whitney Bellows and his wife Anna Huidekoper Peabody (daughter of Ephraim Peabody).

He died on May 20, 1957.

Career

Robert Bellows graduated from Harvard in 1899 after which he studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.

From 1911 to about 1923 he was in partnership with William Truman Aldrich in the firm of Bellows and Aldrich. The partnership dissolved in about 1924 and both continued as sole practitioners in Boston.

Among Bellows and Aldrich’s works were Robinson Chapel of the Boston University School of Theology (1916); the Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art (1920); and the Lumbermen’s Mutual Fire Insurance Company building at Beacon and Raleigh streets (1920-1921).

Among his work, he designed the River Street Bridge across the Charles River (1926).
