James Hovey Rand was born in 1813-1814 in Boston, the son of Gardner H. Rand and his wife, Sarah Frothingham.
He married on March 1, 1835, to Laurinda Moore (b. 1810-1814 in Bolton; d. 20Sep1894 in Medford), daughter of Thomas Moore and his wife, Eunice Houghton.
James Rand died on September 6, 1883, in Charlestown.
Career
James Rand was a housewright in Lowell in the 1830s. By the time of his marriage, he listed his occupation as an architect. He remained in Lowell in the early 1850s, but had opened an office in Boston by the late 1850s. He continued to practice in Charlestown and Boston until his death in 1883.
