Frederic Baldwin Stearns was born on December 19, 1874, in Brookjline, the son of George Marshall Stearns and his wife, Mary DeWitt Baldwin,

He married on October 8, 1910, to Eva Gillard (b. 12Apr1882 in Brroklyn NY; d. 37Aug1963 in Hyannis).

Frederic Stearns died April 25, 1959, in Hyannis.

Career

Frederic Stearns graduated from MIT in 1899 and became a draftsman with Winslow and Bigelow.  After a brief period as a building superintendent with Shepley, Rutan, and Coolidge, he went into practice with George F. Shepard, Jr., in 1913.  They formalized their partnership as Shepard and Stearns in 1921, and remained partners until 1950, when Stearns retired.

Shepard and Stearns work included a number of office, school, and hospital buildings. Among their works were the Suburban Club in Stamford. Connecticut (1914), Administration Building for the Baker Chocolate factory (1919), Boston YWCA Building at Clarendon and Stuart Streets (1929), office buildings for the Carter Pen Company and Union Wool Company, the Milton Women’s Clubhouse, and the Colicott and Cunningham School in Milton.
